Episode #203 SS Mardi Gras Camp Massacre

Week two of December Nasties include SS Experiment Camp and Mardi Gras Massacre. Our top six list this week is Top Six actresses you would like to.... Make sure you hang around for Holy Shit this week especially if your name is Michael Neel. They might not end up being the best movies we have reviewed, but one will certainly be the most... evil.

Episode #202 Visiting the Island of Death

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Michael Neel of Drive-In Horrorshow fame joins us in studio for the first week of 2011's December Nasties. But first, we talk about our picks on this week's top six list "Gone Before Their Time."

First up we have the classic "Visiting Hours." Visiting Hours (also known as Get Well Soon and The Fright) is a 1982 horror film starring Michael Ironside, Lee Grant, Linda Purl, William Shatner and Lenore Zann. It was directed by Jean-Claude Lord and written by Brian Taggert. Deborah Ballin (Grant), a feminist activist, inspires the wrath of misogynistic psychopath and serial killer Colt Hawker (Ironside) on a TV talk show. He attacks her, but she survives and is sent to County General Hospital.

Hawker begins stalking her. Deborah befriends nurse Sheila Munroe (Purl), who admires her devotion to women's rights. Hawker murders an elderly patient and a nurse. He overhears Sheila's opinions on Deborah and "that bastard" who attacked her. Hawker decides to focus his attention on Sheila, stalking her and her children at home.

Hawker courts a young punk girl named Lisa (Zann), then brutally beats, tortures, and rapes her. The next day, Deborah discovers that the patient and nurse have been killed, so she suspects her attacker is back to finish the job. She tries to convince her boss, Gary Baylor (Shatner), and Sheila that she is not safe, but both think she is simply paranoid.

Next, we have another violator of good taste, "Island of Death." A British couple on a break on a small Greek Island are spreading terror beyond anything the islanders could have ever imagined. Only stopping every once in a while to shag anything that moves, be it man, woman or animal. But will they go unpunished, or will the inspector from London be able to put an end to their killing spree?

Episode #201 Miracle Mikadriod: Robokill Mile Under Disco Club Layla

PhotobucketPhotobucket

This is our final Show for listener appretiation month. We start with a list of "Top Six Actors I Want to Punch in the Face."

Our first review this week is for Miracle Mile. The film takes place in a single day and night. The film opens with the two main characters, Harry (Anthony Edwards) and Julie (Mare Winningham), meeting at the La Brea Tar Pits and immediately falling in love. They make a date to meet after her shift ends at midnight at a local coffee shop, but a power failure means Harry's alarm fails to wake him and Julie leaves for home.

When Harry awakes that night he realizes what's happened and rushes to the shop, arriving at 4 AM. Harry tries to call Julie on a pay phone, but only reaches her answering machine, where he leaves an apology. When the phone rings moments later he picks it up, hearing a frantic man telling his dad that nuclear war is about to break out in fifty minutes. When Harry finally gets a chance to talk and asks who's calling, the caller realizes he has dialled the wrong area code. Harry then hears him being arrested and presumably shot.

Harry, confused and not entirely convinced of the reality of the information, wanders back into the diner and tells the other customers what he's heard. One of the diners, a business woman (Denise Crosby), calls a number of politicians in Washington on her Motorola DynaTAC and finds that they are all visiting South America. This convinces her that the information is correct, and she immediately charters a private jet out of LAX. Most of the customers and staff leave with her in the owner's delivery van. Harry, unwilling to leave without Julie, arranges to meet at the airport and jumps from the truck.

Next, we have Mikadroid: Robokill Beneath Discoclub Layla. Inspired by many science fiction stories, including The Termiantor, Captain America and Black Magic M-66, this is the story of three Japanese World War Two super solidiers and what happens after their program is shut down and they reaactivate decades later. Just as a friendly note, there are no lightsabers in this movie, regardless of what the coverbox would lead you to believe.

Episode #199 Captain Kronos Motorama Hunter

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Massive 3 hour show this week. We start off with our top six is films we wished were documentaries.

Our first review is for the Hammer Classic "Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter."

The film opens with two young women in the woods surrounding a Central European village. As they separate, one is approached by a cloaked figure. Dr. Marcus (John Carson) rides by on his horse to discover the one staring at the dead body of the other, whose face has aged horribly and who has blood on her lips.

Dr. Marcus calls in his old army friend Captain Kronos (Horst Janson) and hunchback Professor Hieronymus Grost (John Cater), two professional vampire hunters. On their way towards the village they free a young, barefoot gypsy girl named Carla (Caroline Munro) from a stockade. Carla decides to stay with the pair and later becomes romantically involved with Kronos. They arrive at the village, where young women continue to be attacked and aged by a cloaked figure. Grost explains to the initially skeptical Marcus that the women are victims of a vampire that drains not blood but youth and that there are as "many species of vampire as there are beasts of prey". The finding of another victim confirms Grost's explanations.

Grost and Carla bury several toads in the wood, marking the spots with red ribbons. The next morning, another girl falls victim to the cloaked figure. However, this time her boyfriend witnessed the attack and reveals to Kronos the girl saw "someone old, very old". In contradiction, Kronos states that a youth-draining vampire would appear "young and fair". Kronos also digs up the buried toads, and the fact that one of the toads now lives, confirms the presence of a vampire.

Next, we review "Motorama." A ten year old boy gets tired of life with abusive parents and cashes in his piggy bank and steals a Mustang. He rides off into a surreal America playing "Motorama," a game sponsored by Chimera Gas Company. He has various encounters with different people, and eventually reaches the Chimera Gas Company where he finds they are not playing by the rules of the game.

Episode #195: Terror on Bed: The Tour that Eats

Photobucket Photobucket

For our third week of October Horror Top Six Lists, we feature our Top Six favorite horror franchises

Death Bed: The Bed that Eats: A large, black, four-poster bed, possessed by a demon, is passed from owner to owner. The Demon was a tree, who became a breeze and seemingly fell in love with a woman he blew past. The demon then took human form and conjured up a bed. While he was making love with the woman she died and his eyes bled onto the bed, causing it to become possessed. Those who come into contact with the bed are frequently consumed by it (victims are pulled into what is apparently a large chamber of digestive fluids beneath the sheets). The bed demonstrates a malevolent intelligence as well as some psychokinetic and limited telepathic abilities to manipulate dreams.

Just one of the weird scenes in Death Bed: The Bed That Eats.

A running commentary or chorus is supplied by the ghost — if that is the correct word — of an artist (who would appear to be Aubrey Beardsley, though this is never stated directly) trapped behind a painting on the wall.

Terror On Tour: A rock band called "The Clowns" comes under suspicion of murder when several prostitutes are killed by individuals made up like members of the band. How will this movie hold up against other Heavy Metal horror movies? Take a listen and find out.

Episode #194: I Bought a Killer Vampire Party Motorcycle

Photobucket Photobucket

This week, we start off with a Rock and Shock wrap and we follow that with our Top Six list for the week. Top Six Worst Horror Sequels.

I Bought a Vampire Motorcycle. Every once in a while, we are lucky to happen upon a truly forgotten gem. Titles like Black Roses, Black Belt Jones and Shock Em Dead are great examples of this. Set in a Birmingham, England suburb, the film is about a man named Noddy and his girlfriend Kim who operate a motorcycle courier business. One day Noddy bought a classic motorbike, a 750cc Norton Commando, and restored it. That motorbike, however, is possessed by the evil spirit of a man who was being summoned by an occultist who was killed by a motorbike gang. Whenever the spirit is overcome by a seeming blood lust, the bike would start up, ride on its own and kill people, particularly members of biker gangs.

Killer Party: Three friends are trying to get into a sorority. One of them, Vivia (Sherry Willis-Burch), plays a prank on the girls in the sorority on the night of the initiation. She learns that is how she was accepted to the sorority and now must play a prank at a party hosted by the sorority for the local fraternity. The party is to be held at an old abandoned house. Another friend, Jennifer (Joanna Johnson), is bothered by this house, but the third friend, Phoebe (Elaine Wilkes) and the guy she is interested in (Martin Hewitt), convince her to go along with the party plans. Unfortunately for the friends and everyone else at the party, someone or something else does not want anyone at their abandoned house.

Episode #193 Shock 'Em Dead Hitch-Hike

Photobucket Photobucket

This week, we list off our top six favorite horror sequels. Not the best, but our favorite. There might be some surprises mixed in.

Hitch-Hike a.k.a. Naked Prey:To revive their failing marriage, self-absorbed lush Walter Mancini (Franco Nero) and his shrewish wife, Eve (Corinne Clery), embark on a cross-country trip. But when they pick up stranded hitchhiker Adam Konitz (David Hess) -- who's just ditched his accomplices after a multimillion-dollar bank heist -- their excursion takes a harrowing detour. This double-edged thriller set in the Nevada desert also stars Carlo Puri and Joshua Sinclair.

Rest in peace David Hess.

Shock'em Dead: Angel Martin (Stephen Quadros) has just made the deal of a lifetime. Fame, fortune and beautiful women will all be his - for a price. To become a rock star Martin must give his soul, and to survive he must feed on the souls of others. But Angel wants to possess more than just the soul of the woman of his dreams.

Lindsay Roberts (Traci Lords) is the manager of a rising rock band that has a talented new band member. When Angel Martin joined the band she suddenly had her hands full with concerts, contracts--and private meetings with Angel. But success isn't the only new thing in her life: their recent concerts have been marred by a series of brutal killings, which remain unsolved. As Angel lures Lindsay further into his dark mysterious world--the lines are drawn for a terrifying black magic battle... against the ultimate evil.

Episode #192: Chopping Mall from Hong Kong

Photobucket Photobucket

This week, we feature our next installment in our second look review series. We decide to give Chopping Mall and The Man from Hong Kong another chance.

Chopping Mall: These bargains are to die for! High-tech robots with state-of-the-art firepower have been employed as night watchmen at the Park Plaza Mall. But when an errant bolt of lightning short-circuits the computer switchboard that controls the robots, the mechanical security men turn into rampaging "killbots." Meanwhile, four horny couples are checking out the mattresses after-hours. Little do they know they're about to go from bed to bath … and beyond!

Rent it from Netflix or order it on Amazon

The Man From Hong Kong: The film opens at Ayers Rock, where undercover detectives arrest Hong Kong drug courier Win Chan (Sammo Hung). The film switches to the Royal Hong Kong Police Police Training School at Wong Chuk Hang where a hang glider piloted by Australian Caroline Thorne (Rosalind Speirs) runs out of air currents and lands on the parade square. She is met by Inspector Fang Sing Leng who has coincidentally been chosen to travel to Sydney to interview Win Chan.

Fang is met by Detectives Gross (Hugh Keays-Byrne) and Taylor (Roger Ward) who have been unable to obtain any information from Win Chan. Fang uses traditional but illegal police methods to elicit cooperation from Win Chan. Fang discovers the connection between Win Chan's drug imports and Sydney "colourful identity" (gangster) Jack Wilton (George Lazenby). Inspector Fang becomes a target of death by various firearms, edged weapons, explosives, fast cars, a crossbow and martial arts by both Australian and Chinese criminals. He also reacquaints himself with Caroline who trains him how to fly a hang glider at Stanwell Park that the Inspector uses to gain access to Wilton's crime headquarters.
