This week’s top six list is inspired by Inception. We talk about our top six favorite alternate reality / dream state / parallel dimension movies.

Our first movie up for review is the 1980 flick “Luca il contrabbandiere,” or Contraband. Starring Fabio Testi, this is the story of cigarette smuggling, drug pushers moving in and a violent gang war that occurs because of it.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081081/

Next uop we have the thriller, “Eyes of a Stranger.” This Ken Wiederhorn film from 1981 is about a woman who suspects her neighbor is a serial killer and rapist. She investigates, turns the tables on him, all while caring for her disabled sister. (Played by Jennifer Jason Leigh.)

This week’s top six lists are all about our favorite movie studios. Now, calm down it’s not the mainstream ones, it’s more independent, and mostly out of business studios.

The first flick is another Cat III release, “The Untold Story,” a.k.a. “The Human Porkchop.” This tells basically the same story as Ebola Syndrome and stars one of the same actors, Anthony Wong Chau-Sang. Go figure.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103743/

Next up we have the sequel to “Bronx Warriors,” “Escape from the Bronx.” Starring Mark Gregory and Henry Silva, this is basically the continuation of the story set out in the first part. Released in 1983, this film was directed by Enzo Castellari.

Episode #130: Welcomde to Country Blue

Country BLueNightmare Beach

On this week’s show, we feature a list outlining our favorite Canadian Movies. I know! I didn’t know there were more than 6 either. Of course, Bill goes the cult horror route and Chris goes with just what he likes. Right, big surprise. Regardless, it’s a fun list.

Our first movie up for review is 1973’s “Country Blue,” a.k.a. “On the Run.” This was a film suggested by The Het, so you know it has something special. It’s the story of a country ex-con that wants more from life.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0236124/

Next up we feature “Nightmare Beach,” a.k.a. “Welcome to Spring Break.” This flick is directed by Umberto Lenzi and stars pretty much no one famous. The deference between this story and your typical slasher is the characterization. Is this a good thing? Listen to find out.

Episode #128: Rest, Tokyo Drifter, In Pieces!

Photobucket

Photobucket

This week, we have a top six list inspired by the forums. Originally the idea was top six main characters that you should have liked, but didn’t. It morphed into something completely different by the time we sat down to record.

Our first movie up for review is the 1987 supernatural “slasher,” “Rest in Pieces.” Directed by José Ramón Larraz from a story by, Santiago Moncada, this had potential to be pretty good. A newlywed couple that inherits a large sum of money and property, but the niece is haunted by visions of her dead Aunt. Will they escape with their lives?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092873/

Next, we have 1966’s “Tokyo Drifter.” This avant-garde film tells the story of a yakuza member that tries to give up the life while forces beyond his control keep reeling him back in. A very visual film from a very visionary filmmaker, Tokyo Drifter is the first in a run of films to influence modern day cinematic styles.

EPisode #127: Ubalda Three, the Naked Warm and Hard Way

Photobucket

Photobucket

In this week’s show, we have a spectacular, all American top six list: “Top Six American Horror Movies!” The criteria for this list is taken in different direction by each host and again leads to much different lists.

The first film up for review this week is the classic 1974 Gordon Parks Jr. blaxploitation flick, “Three the Hard Way.” Starring Jim Brown, Fred Williamson and Jim Kelly, this is about a neo-Nazi plot to kill off all black people by poisoning the water supply. Sound familiar? It should. Listen to find out why. Watch Mister Keyes get set up and then whoop some ass!

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072284/

Our second flick stars the ever-beautiful Edwige Fenech. This is the story of a Knight (Pippo Franco) returning from war. Before he left to fight, he put a chastity belt on his wife, hoping that it would prevent her from cheating on him while he was gone. That is of little consequence once he lays eyes on the miller’s wife (Fenech.) Both the knight and the miller want the the other’s wife. Let the hilarity ensue! See why Fenech is the parton Saint of OTC by clicking here!

Episode #126: The First Death of Django, He Who Shoots Grapes

Photobucket

Photobucket

In this action packed episode of Outside the Cinema, Bill and Chris list off their favorite fight scenes, all leading up to the number one most heart pounding ass kickingest fight of all time!

The first movie up for review is “Grapes of Death,” a.k.a. Les Raisins de la mort. This film, from 1978 was directed by Jean Rollin and tells the story of what happens after the pesticides sprayed on the grapes used to make wine poison people. Zombies? Maybe. Nudity? Absolutely.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078077/

The second movie we review is the 1966, “let’s cash in on the name,” “He Who Shoots First,” a.k.a. “Django, Shoot First,” a.k.a . about one hundred more titles. This is not an official Django sequel and does not start the original actor in the role. This is a pretty straight forward betrayal/revenge in the old west story.

Episode #125: Wild Hell Cab Riders

Photobucket

Photobucket

This week, we talk about our top six favorite actresses. Yes, the conversation goes there. We are after all red-blooded men. By that, we mean, we appreciate their body… of work, and their physical… prowess as well as their tremendous… talent.

Out first movie for review this week is the biker flick Wild Riders, from 1971. Starring Alex Rocco, who Chris is convinced it the Dad from The Wonder Years, this is your typical Biker flick. Two renegade bikers flee the law and take over a house with two women in it. Things go wrong and that’s about it.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067988/

Next, we have the listener suggested Hell Cab, a.k.a. Chicago Cab. This movie, from 1997 is based off the stage play and tells the story of one shift in the life of a Chicago cab driver. During his shift, we see a surprising amount of cameos as well as a very interesting cross section of life and people.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119278/

From last week’s feedback, here are the links suggested by Hank. The first is for Gone With the Pope
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQqZKd_72C0

And, in his own words: “Here is the trailer I did show you way back when for my short Zom-com “Dinner Party at the End of the World”. It looks like shit, but that’s what I get for not having a real DP behind the camera.”

Episode #125: She Wolf Nest: Ilsa of the SS

Photobucket

Photobucket

This week we have a special GGTMC/OTC crossover show. Each show picked a film for both shows to cover. Now, I know what you’re saying, “Haven’t you done this before?” No, actually not like this. In the past we have won and lost bets and that led to the other show either picking content or having it thrust upon them. This is different. This is a joint effort, wherein both shows will review the same two movies. But, before we get too far into it, let me set things up properly.

Our top 6 list for this week would be our Top Six Movies Made From Fads or Trends. These can be pretty much anything. Pop culture, news and political, games, celebrities, and sports. It will make total sense when you hear it.

Out first film up for review, which is the Outside the Cinema pick, is the 1975 classic Nazi exploitation “Ilsa: She Wolf of the SS. If there were to be a list of building blocks of the genre, this could very well be one of the cornerstones. Dyanne Thorne plays Ilsa, and she not only supplies the curves for the part, she brings a bit of humanity to what could otherwise be a caricature of a role.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071650/

Next, we have the Gentlemen’s choice, “Nid de guêpes.” Known in America as “The Nest,” this film from 2002 is part of the new wave of films from France. A frenetic action military, police thriller, “The Nest” is filled with smart thieves, smarter military, and even smarter mafia operatives. Drawing heavily from “Assault on Precinct 13,” this is a non-stop orgy of gun play and violence.

Episode #123: Mars Needs a Boy, His Dog and Women

Photobucket

Photobucket

In this episode, we have a special top six list tribute to Dennis Hopper because we recorded last week just before his passing was announced.
Chris picked the two movies up for review because he won the trivia contest on last week’s OTC Live. Did you listen to that episode? You should. Head over to http://www.otcindustries.mevio.com/ for all back episodes.

The first movie up for review is the Don Johnson vehicle, “A Boy and His Dog.” This post apocalyptic story centers on a boy, Vic and his dog, Blood as they search for women and food. In a world that has barely survived World War IV, both are in scarce supply. Based on a novella by Harlan Ellison, this is deemed a cult classic. Will your intrepid hosts agree with that assertion?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072730/

Next up, we have the wonderfully titled “Mars Needs Women.” It sounds like it should be awesome. Mars, after suffering from a mutation in their Y chromosome, can not produce female babies in sufficient numbers to sustain their race. So, in a final act of polite desperation, five smartly dressed martins attempt to find five women to help repopulate the Martian race. This film is most notable for Yvonne Craig, Batgirl from the Adam West series.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060672/

Feedback for the show was great, unfortunately, we had to cut it short due to the violent thunderstorm that moved in during the show. There’s nothing worse than losing power before you save a show file!

Episode 122: Trick the Fall of New York, Baby, After 2019

Photobucket

Photobucket

You’ve seen them, and you’ve thought, “That’s weird, they changed the name of the movie.” This week, we are not going to tell you how those alternate titles are created. We are, however going to talk about the most awesome and most mistranslated ones we could find.

Our first movie up for review is the 1983 Italian sci-fi/dysopian adventure, “2019 – Dopo la caduta di New York.” After the nuclear wars, life goes on. Parsifal, a modern day knight is tasked with the quest of heading into the ruins of New York to find the last fertile woman on earth. None other than the President sends him to find her. Sound familiar? Parsifal crosses a desert in his speeding car, having to deal with an odd assortment of marauders as he attempts to find her. Many rats are killed and fights are fought, all before running into George Eastman.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085125/

Next up, we have the crime drama / blaxploitation movie, “Trick Baby.” Written by Robert Beck under the name Iceberg Slim, this is the screen adaptation of his critically acclaimed book. Trick Baby is the story of two con men that are pretty comfortable running small time grifts. Soon enough, the opportunity for bigger and bigger paydays presents themselves. This strains the relationship between Folks and Blue past the breaking point.

Episode 121: THe Fifth Blade of Satan's Cord

Photobucket

Photobucket

Overrated movies. It doesn’t mean that they are bad, it simply means that maybe, just maybe tall that praise is a little too much. In this episode, we discuss what our top picks would be for overrated movies. For easy reference, the voice mail line is 206-339-7090 and you can write This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Our first film for review this week is, “Satan’s Blade.” The 1984 surprisingly high budgeted (but none of it ended up on the screen) slasher flick. This is the story of a vengeful mountain man and his beef with the local ski lodge and everyone that stays there. This film features a whole lot of people, none of which could be called actors (even on a good day.)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0222344/

The second movie for this week is the Franco Nero giallo, “Giornata nera per l’ariete” or “The Fifth Cord.” Based off the story written by David McDonald Devine, this is the story of racecars, murder and J+B. But really, what giallo isn’t? Released in 1971, “The Fifth Cord” was directed by Luigi Bazzoni.”

Episode 120: Fear No Prayer: Evil of the Rollerboys

Photobucket Photobucket

What movie characters would you most want to hang out with? That is the topic of this week’s Top Six List. Would you want someone to just hang with? Do you crave adventure? How about tagging along with a spy or a serial killer? Take a listen and see which way the lists go.

First up, we have the 1981 film “Fear No Evil,” directed and written by Frank LaLoggia. This is the story of Satan and his skinny reincarnation. Andrew is a high school kid that realizes that he is the Devil reborn and attempts to rule his kingdom and oppose the angels sent to destroy him.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082367/

Next up we have the 1990 dystopian flick “Prayer of the Rollerboys.” Written by W. Peter Iliff, directed by Rick King and starring Corey Haim and Patricia Arquette, this is the story of a society after collapse. There is little government control and rampant homelessness and drug use. The Rollerboys, seen as heroes and terrorist racists by different groups are all set to move their master plan into action. Can Griffin a.k.a. Ramrod, stop them before it’s too late?

Episode#119: Raw Summer Cannibals Force

Photobucket

Photobucket

This week, we list out top six climaxes. Yes, of course it goes there. what did you expect from us? Restraint? Class? If so, you are in the wrong place, fella!

Our first movie up for review is the low budget "let's save the" summer camp flick... Summer Camp. There is nothing really notable about this one except for the fact that Linnea Quigley (of Return of the Living Dead fame) has a supporting role in it.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079965/

Next, we have the oddly confusing and totally weird, Raw Force, a.k.a. Kung Fu Cannibals. This is the story of a boat load of people, stolen jade, undead warriors and a forbidden island that for some reason has travel brochures. Yeah, just go with it.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084573/

Episode #118: Your Vice is a Locked Slaughter and Only I have the Key

PhotobucketYOur Vice is a Locked Room

On this weeks show, we discuss our top six favorite vehicles. This can range from real to the fantastic and back to the mundane. I bet you can guess who goes in what direction.

The first film up for review is “Il tuo vizio è una stanza chiusa e solo io ne ho la chiave,” from 1972. Starring the beautiful Edwige Fenech and some other people, this is a loose retelling if Poe’s “The Black Cat.” Known as “Your Vice is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key” in the United States, the title references another Martino film.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069421/

The second review this week is another from 1972, “Slaughter.” Starring Jim Brown, this is the story of a man forced into helping the government after he ruins a drug sting. Slaughter needs to travel to South America to take out the rest of the mobsters that killed his loved ones. Rip Torn plays a surprisingly greasy mobster to great effect.

Episode #116: The Last Gator Kiss: Prom Bait III

Episode #116: The Last Gator Kiss: Prom Bait III

This week, we discuss our “Top Six: Little Too Far, Crossed the Line.” This was supposed to be a list of movies or scenes that went too far even for our tastes. As you will hear, the list transformed as time went on and does not resemble the original idea that much anymore. The first movie this week up for review is the Canadian flick, “Prom Night III: The Last Kiss.” This is the story of a girl who was wrongfully killed and is back again seeking revenge on her old High School. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098136/ Next, we have the Cajun revenge flick, “Gator Bait.” Starring the lovely Claudia Jennings in what amounts to a waste in casting, this is the story of three groups that all have problems with each other and how those problems get out of hand real quick. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074080/ Visit www.outsidethecinema.net for all the latest show notes and updates. Episode #115: This Night, I’ll Screwball Your Corpse

Episode #115: This Night, I’ll Screwball Your Corpse

This week’s list is a discussion of our top six favorite “Thought It Would Be Good, But Sucked” flicks. The first review of the week is the 1967 José Mojica Marins second entry in the Coffin Joe series; “Esta Noite Encarnarei no Teu Cadáver,” or, This Night, I’ll Possess Your Soul. Once again, Zé do Caixão is up to his old tricks, kidnapping women in order to create the perfect specimen of humanity and immortalize his bloodline. Will it work? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060380/ The second review this week is the Category 3 sex comedy “Bu wen nu xue tang” or Screwball ’94.” This is the story of a High School (or College) student and his adventure with a 400-year-old pervert ghost. Actually, pretty much everyone a pervert in this flick. From students masturbating in class to a pill that makes people engage uncontrollably in oral sex, this is a pretty entertaining entry into the sex comedy genre. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109346/#comment Visit www.outsidethecinema.net for all the latest show notes and updates. Episode #114: Camping Bodycount Paranoia Del Terrorea

Episode #114: Camping Bodycount Paranoia Del Terrore

This week’s list is a discussion of our top six favorite “Thought It Would Suck, But Didn’t” flicks. The first review for this episode is 1987’s “Camping del terrore,” or “Bodycount” as it was known in the United States. This is the story of a group of stereotypically stupid sex craved teens and their encounter with “The Shaman.” While the murders are occurring, the Sheriff is chasing the wife of the owner of the campground. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090788/ The second movie reviewed this week is 1970’s “Paranoia,” directed by Umberto Lenzi. There is some confusion regarding the titles of this and other films in the trilogy. Bill explains what version this is and where the confusion came from. “Paranioa” is the story of a woman invited to the seaside home of her ex-husband by his new wife. If that sounds suspicious, wait till you see what happens next! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0064787/#comment Visit www.outsidethecinema.net for all the latest show notes and updates. Episode #112: Only the Dark Height of Colors

Episode #112: Only the Dark Height of Colors

On this week’s show, we have a different kind of top six list. Bill and Chris each picked an actor and then they list their favorite movies that actor has been in. Who did they pick? Did they go obscure or mainstream? You’ll have to listen to find out! The first review this week is for the Weng Weng spy vehicle, “For Y’ur Height Only.” Mr. Giant kidnaps Dr. Van Kohler so he can use his weapon. On an unsuspecting world… I think. In reality, who cares? This movie stars a little person in the James Bond role, fighting full size adults with no more than a punch to the groin and a lot of sliding on the floor. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0200642/ The second review on this week’s show is for the Edwige Fenech film “Tutti i colori del buio,” a.k.a. “All the Colors of the Dark.” This starts off as a simple story of a woman who is suffering after the loss of her unborn child, but it quickly spirals out of control into a world of cults and human sacrifices. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069390/ Visit www.outsidethecinema.net for all the latest show notes and updates. Episode #109: The Night Evelyn’s Nail Gun Came out of the Massacre

Episode #109: The Night Evelyn’s Nail Gun Came out of the Massacre

This week, we have an interesting show. The top six list for this week are our favorite 1980’s Science Fiction movies. Now, I know what you are all thinking. Empire, Robocop, Aliens, Terminator, Buckaroo Banzai. WRONG! The guys decide to take the list in a totally different direction. I think you will be surprised. The first review for the week is the 1971 Italian flick “ La notte che Evelyn usci dalla tomba,” or, as it is known in America, “The Night Evelyn Came Out of the Grave.” This is the story of a rather deplorable man, Lord Alan Cunningham and his attraction and loathing of redheaded women. It just might have something to do with his deceased wife, Evelyn. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067487/ We follow that review with a review of the 1985 movie “The Nail Gun Massacre.” I don’t wan to ruin anything, but there may be some disagreement on this one. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089665/ Head over to http://www.outsidethecinema.com and click on one of our many sponsor links, including our new sponsor T-Shirt Hell. Episode 106: Ebola Woman Police Syndrome

Episode #105: Empty Pandemonium

The first movie this week is 1996’s Yi boh lai duk, otherwise known as Ebola Syndrome. This is the story of a really deplorable human being named Kai San (Anthony Wong Chau-Sang) and his exploits in Hong Kong and South Africa as he tries to eke out a pathetic life while avoiding mistakes made in his past and becoming a carrier for the deadly Ebola virus. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116163/ Next, we have another from the lovely Edwige Fenech; La poliziotta a New York, a.k.a. 1981’s A Police Woman in New York. This is the third in the Policewoman series and quite possibly also the wackiest as well. The plot revolves around Gianna and Alvaro as they impersonate Pupa and her bodyguard Joe Dodiciomicidi as they try to infiltrate the New York mafia. Of course they do, and wackiness ensues! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082923/

Episode #105: Empty Pandemonium

Episode #105: Empty Pandemonium

This week, we delve into some foreign flicks. One film is from Australia, and one is from Mexico. But first, there’s some jibber jabber and a top six list. This week’s list showcases our top six favorite versions of the Devil in movies. After that, we get into our first flick of the week, 1982’s “Running On Empty.” This is an Aussie carsploitation flick that has everything you need. Fast cars, dumb characters and the shortiest skirts you will ever see. Directed by John Clarke and written by Barry Tomblin, the story focuses on Mike (played by Terry Serio) and his girl Julie (played by Deborah Conway) as the race his car against all challengers. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084616/ Next up is the Mexican nunsploitation flick “Satánico pandemonium: La Sexorcista.” Directed by Gilberto Martinez Solares and written by Adolfo Martinez Solares from a story by Jorge Barragán, this is the tale of Sister Maria (Cecilia Pezet) and her struggle with temptation at the hands of Luzbel (Enrique Rocha.) Just as you would expect, there is plenty of boobs and blood in this flick, plus it has a nice satisfying ending that the boys don’t spoil for once! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070636/ Head over to www.outsidethecinema.com and click on one of our many sponsor links. Episode #103: The Girl Must Kill Again

Episode #103: The Girl Must Kill Again

Another week another episode of Outside the Cinema! This week our top six list is “Top Six 1990’s Sci-Fi.” That’s a list that’s sure to cause some controversy. Our first review this week is the 1969 Jess Franco flick, “The Girl From Rio” a.k.a. “The Seven Secrets of Sumuru.” Starring Shirley Eaton and Richard Wyler, this is the story of an island nation of women, their hatred of men, gangster interested in gold, ten million dollars and lost of interesting if not well pulled off ideas. To give you an idea about this picture, here is one of the listed goofs from IMDb.com: During the main battle, as the invading helicopters are shooting at the female army from the sky, you can see several instances of the same, exact scenes of some women dropping dead multiple times, only from different angles throughout the entire battle. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0062808/ Next up, we have the Luigi Cozzi pseudo-giallo, “L'assassino è costretto ad uccidere ancora,” or “The Killer Must Kill Again.” Released in 1975, This movie does away with all the preconceived pretences of giallos and introduces you to the killer in the first 15 minutes of the movie. Starring George Hilton and Antoine Saint-John, this is an interesting take on the concept. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072662/ Head over to www.outsidethecinema.com and click on one of our many sponsor links. Episode #102: Yakuza Dynamite

Episode #102: Yakuza Dynamite

This week, we have a nice mix of Eastern and Western 70’s flicks for you. But, before that, we discuss our “Top Six Favorite Quest Films.” The first review we have for you is the 1973 action crime flick, “Yasagure anego den: sôkatsu rinchi” a.k.a. “Female Yakuza Tale: Inquisition and Torture.” This is the tonally lighter sequel to “Furyô anego den: Inoshika Ochô” otherwise know as “Sex and Fury.” Reiko Ike reprises her role as Ochô Inoshika in another tale of sex and vengeance. This time, she is mistaken for a drug mule, molested, abused and framed for murder by the Ogi clan. Of course she will want revenge! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0142998/ The second film up for review is “Willie Dynamite” from 1974. Roscoe Orman stars as Willie Dynamite. You may remember Roscoe from a certain show when you were little. One of our hosts didn’t recognize him until the recording of the show! “Willie Dynamite” tells the story of a stone cold pimp in New York City. After being pressured by and refusing to join together with the other pimps in a sort of mafia like organization, Willie starts to run into all kinds of trouble. Everyone from crooked cops to morally ambiguous social workers try to take Willie down. Three 6 Mafia was dead on when they said “It’s hard out here for a pimp.” http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072409/ Click through the banner on our site, www.outsidethecinema.com and make sure to pick up your rifftracks DVDs! Episode #99: Last Gestapo on the Edge of the Orgy

Episode #99: Last Gestapo on the Edge of the Orgy In our last episode for video nasty month, Bill and Chris tackle Gestapo’s Last Orgy and The House on the Edge on the Park. First however, there are some special announcements, as well as a seasonal top six list. The first review is for an Italian film called L'ultima orgia del III Reich a.k.a The Gestapo’s Last Orgy a.k.a. Last Orgy of the Third Reich is the story of a holocaust survivor that returns to the ruins of the concentration camp that she spent time in during World War II. The interesting thing is, she returns with the Commandant of the camp, whom she seems to have a relationship with. The majority of the film consists of flashbacks t the atrocities visited on her during her stay in the camp. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074569/ Next up is La casa sperduta nel parco or, Last House on the Edge of the Park. This film is made in the vein of I Funny Games and Last House on the Beach. Two low-life thugs invite themselves to a party and take over… with violence! There’s not too much else to say about it that won’t take away from the review, so I’ll stop here. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080503/ This week, we lost a great contributor to the history of film. Dan O’Bannon left us this week. Dan is a well respected and much loved in the horror and sci-fi genres. For those of you that don’t know, Dan wrote the story and screenplay for Alien. He is responsible for creating Ellen Ripley and the rest of the crew of the Nostromo. For Chris, he will always hold a special place in his heart for writing and directing Return of the Living Dead. We will all miss him. Click through the banner on our site, www.outsidethecinema.com and make sure to pick up your rifftracks! Want exclusive content? Episode #98: Beyond the Flesh

Here we are, right in the middle of video nasty month and do we have a show for you! We cover two notorious flicks this time: “Flesh for Frankenstein” and “The Beyond.” First however, and as usual, we present our top six list. This week: road trip movies. Our first review this week is 1973’s Flesh for Frankenstein, or as it may be more commonly known, “Andy Warhol’s Frankenstein.” Udo Keir stars as Baron Frankenstein in this sort of retelling of the classic story. Of course, to qualify for video nasty status, there would have to be something sort of messed up with it, right? Well, there is. Aside from the normal playing god symbolism that is inferred in usual Frankenstein stories, this one adds a subtle (and not so subtle) reference to attempting to create a master race. That however, is just the tip of the iceberg. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071508/ For our second review, we discuss Lucio Fulci’s “E tu vivrai nel terrore - L'aldilà” or as it is more commonly know in English, “The Beyond.” This is the story of a woman that comes into possession of an old hotel in Louisiana. Unfortunately, it sits right on top of one of the seven doors to hell, a door that someone wants open. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082307/ Click through the banner on our site, www.outsidethecinema.com and make sure to pick up your rifftracks just in time for the holiday season! Episode #97: I Spit on Your Tenebre

Wouldn’t be a proper Outside the Cinema if we didn’t start with a top six list, would we? In the spirit of the vide o nasties, our list this week includes what we would think would be banned if the practice was started up again today. The first film that we cover is from 1978. First know under the title, “Day of the Women” it was renamed “I Spit on Your Grave” in 1981 for re-release. This is the story of Jennifer, a woman that goes on a summer vacation only to have it go more wrong that she could ever possible imagine. Trivia Fact: The film was passed uncut in Australia until December 1997. It was banned from December 1997 until June 2004. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077713/ The second film we cover this week is the Dario Argento classic, Tenebre. Released in 1982, Tenebre is the story of a writer with a very violent stalker who cannot stand human depravity. Through many twists, turns and one very agile Doberman, the story all comes together in the end very nicely. Trivia Fact: In Germany, the film is still banned after 25 years of its release. The film has never been released uncut in Germany and according to the FSK (the official censorship in Germany), it never will. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084777/ Click through the banner on our site, www.outsidethecinema.com and make sure to pick up your rifftracks just in time for the holiday season! Episode 96: A Man Called Wonder and the Invincible Women Hitting you hard, right in the brainpan is the newest episode of Outside the Cinema! This week, we delve into a top six list suggested by The Samurai from The Gentlemen’s Guide to Midnight Cinema: Top Six Favorite Facial Hair! Then we go right into a review that might be better covered on GGTMC as well, 1973’s Lo chiamavano Tresette... giocava sempre col morto, or, A Man Called Invincible. This is a spaghetti western done in a comedic vein that tramples on certain stereotypes. Take a listen and you will hear what we mean. It is the story of a lone gunslinger that gets teamed up with the town sheriff to transport gold to Dallas, Texas. That’s pretty much the whole plot. Don’t want to ruin too much for you. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071766/ Next up we cover another gem from 1973, Robert Vincent O’Neill’s Wonder Women. Starring almost nobody, except for Sid Haig, this is the story of an insurance investigator who travels to the Philippines and uncovers a sinister plot to kidnap top athletes to sell their body parts to the highest bidder. Seriously. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070926/ Take a listen to the show to hear a very special announcement regarding a new sponsor that we are very excited about. Anna, our new assistant returns this week with a new vocabulator and a reprogrammed attitude. She’s still sassy, but now with 50% less intolerance! Want exclusive content? First up is the weekly top six list. In keeping with box office trends, we decide to compile a list of vampires that are better, in one way or another, than “Twilight” vampires. Then, we move on to our reviews. First up is Bill’s Fenech flick, Giovannona coscialunga, disonorata con onore, or Giovannona Longthighs. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070111/ Next, we hear the review of the Fenech flick that Chris watched, The Sweet Pussycats, or Alle Kätzchen naschen gern, from 1969. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0064005/ We follow those reviews with a movie that we both watched, Barry McKenzie Holds His Own, from 1974. This is the story of a man searching Europe for his kidnapped Aunt Edna. Little does Barry know that the weird Count Von Plasma in Transylvania is holding her! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071196/ After that, we go over a massive amount of feedback and then end the show! This week, we have a very special announcement about the show. Of course, this is followed by what will go down as the best sound clip EVER. Then we get into the meat of the show. This week, the top six list is “Top Six Cult Flicks for Chicks.” It’s an interesting list and hopefully will generate some discussion. We follow that with our two reviews. First up is the 1970 comedy / drama “Watermelon Man.” This socially satirical film was directed by Melvin Van Peebles, written by Herman Raucher and stars Godfrey Cambridge in the lead role of Jeff Greber. The story revolves around Jeff, who is a white man (and a bigot.) One morning and with no cause, he wakes up a black man. Now Jeff will see first hand how difficult it is for a black man during the civil rights movement. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066550/ Trivia fact – Taglines used for “Watermelon Man” that wouldn’t be acceptable today: The Uppity Movie. His white bread world just turned upside brown! A very funny thing happened to Jeff Gerber. It won't happen to you, so you can laugh. Our next feature is the docudrama Bettie Page: Dark Angel from 2004. Directed by Nico B. and written by Carly Adler and Nico B, this is the story of the last years of Bettie’s career with Irving Klaw as she tries to become a legitimate actress while posing for some of the most well known pictures ever. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0397039/ Trivia fact – There actually were home air conditioners in the 1950’s. Now, on to the housekeeping. Starting this Friday, November 13th, follow this link and vote every day! www.podcastawards.com Are you a fan of Clive Barker’s Nightbreed? Twelve hours have not even transpired since the end of the First Annual Halloween Throwdown, and the boys were back in the studio to record this week’s Outside the Cinema! With the Halloween season safely behind us, the show’s focus will be decidedly lighter for the month of November to serve as a break before the spirit crushing movies for December. In keeping with that theme, the boys decide to risk their reputations. They have devised a list composed of “chick flicks.” However this list is just a little different as explained in the show. The first movie covered is the Disney spy/comedy “Condorman.” Directed by Charles Jarrott, “Condorman” stars Michael Crawford, Oliver Reed, Barbara Carrera and James Hampton. It tells the story of Woody, a comic book artist whom his friend Harry ropes in to the spy ring. Of course, hi-jinks ensue when the K.G.B. think Woody is a top operative. Trivia fact – Michael Crawford is English and played an American, Oliver Reed is English and played a Russian, Barbara Carrera is from Nicaragua and also played a Russian, Jean-Pierre Kalfon is French and played a Russian. The only primary cast member that was from the country the script said he was from is James Hampton who was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, U.S.A. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082199/ The next movie up for review is 2005’s “Death Trance.” Based on the manga, this is the story of a coffin that is surrounded by different legends. One says it will grant you your greatest wish, another says it will release a god that will destroy the planet. Apparently not heeding the second legend, Grave drags the coffin across the country fighting off all kinds of enemies, pursued by a monk, a gunslinger and of all things, a small girl in traditional Japanese formal wear. Tak Sakaguchi plays Grave, Honoka Asada is the little girl and Kentaro Segal plays Sid. Trivia fact, Kentaro Segal is the son of Steven Segal. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0443737/ Are you a fan of Clive Barker’s Nightbreed? Hello loyal (and occasional) listeners! Welcome to another episode Outside the Cinema. As you have come to expect from OTC over time, this episode contains all of the usual stuff. A top six list. One movie review, followed by another movie review. The top six list for this week takes one topic and each host focuses on it differently. Bill announces what his six Halloween party films will be for the Halloween throw down this Saturday at www.tv.outsidethecinema.com starting at 12:00 noon E.S.T. Chris’ list is more for a party with people that are not as into horror movies and is structured to get more… we’ll say fanboyish as the night goes on. The first movie covered is one of two anthology films this week, “John Carpenter Presents Body Bags” from 1993. This is a three-part film with a nice little connecting storyline. This flick was originally made for Showtime and is currently not available on DVD. It stars among others, John Carpenter, Robert Carradine, Stacy Keach and Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill. I know, weird! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106449/ The second movie up for review is 1983’s Joseph Sargent directed “Nightmares.” Another anthology, this time with four separate stories. Some actors in the sptries that you may recognize are, Emilio Esteves, Moon Unit Zappa, Lance Henricksen, Richard Masur, Veronica Cartwright, and the voice of James Tolkan (he was Mr. Strickland in the Back to the Future movies) among others. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086014/ Thanks for your continued support! As most of you know, we are at the Rock and Shock convention this weekend. However, that won’t stop us from reviewing more movies for you! This week, we have the Rudy Ray Moore flick, “Petey Wheatstraw – The Devil’s Son-In-Law” and Satan’s Children. Along with a rather unexpected (and unprecedented) caller into the show, we will discuss our top six “Creepiest Places.” First up is the Cliff Roquemore written and directed “Petey Wheatstraw” from 1977. This is a story about revenge, pacts with the devil, sweaty fat men, graveyards, the Devil’s pimp came, and much much more. Starring Rudy Ray Moore as Petey Wheatstraw and G. Tito Shaw as Lucipher, this is one messed up blaxploitation picture! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078078/ Next up we have the “horror” story of “Satan’s Children.” Directed by Joe Wiezycki, this is the tale of Bobby Douglas and what happen when he falls in with the wrong crowd – multiple times. Is it about devil worship? Maybe. Is it about the dangers of pot? Maybe. Is it about what happens if you have a homely and horny stepsister that keep trying to get all up in your junk while berating you at the same time? Quite possibly. Is it about the fact that this movie tries to tell people that the devil hates gay people and liars too? Sure. I guess. This movie made no sense, except for the fact that the leader of the cult is super organized. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0128451/ Tune in this week to OTC Talk, 8:00 p.m. EST on Tuesday the 20th. http://www.tv.outsidethecinema.com Thanks to everyone that voted for us in the podcast awards, the nominees will be announced soon. Hi gang. This week we have a double shot of Umberto Lenzi, and they couldn’t any more different. Added to that is a top six list of “Teen Horror” and our usual feedback section to round out the show. First up is Lenzi’s “Sette orchidee macchiate di rosso,” or “Seven Blood Stained Orchids” from 1972. Starring Antonio Sabato Sr. and Uschi Glas, this is the story of a killer the police have dubbed “The Half Moon Killer.” With it’s fair share of inventive kills, this giallo might just be good. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067696/ Next, we have one of Lenzi’s entries into the cannibal genre, 1980’s “Mangiati vivi!” or “Eaten Alive!” This follows the trial and tribulations as a woman searches for her sister in the cannibal jungles of New Guinea. This is not one for the squeamish. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081112/ Tune in this week to OTC Talk, 8:00 p.m. EST on Tuesday the 13th. www.tv.outsidethecinema.com Don’t forget to nominate us for the podcast awards – www.podcastawards.com Nominate Outside the Cinema for - Best Produced and don’t forget to nominate our friend’s shows too! Hello again everyone! Despite the innuendo that this episode’s title might infer, this week we are covering two very distinct and different films. The first is Rubber’s Lover, and the second is Milano rovente. But first, we list our top six creature features. The first film we review is the cyberpunk/sadomasochistic/bondage film Rubber’s Lover from 1997. Written and directed by Shozin Fukui, this film documents a team of scientists as they try to unlock the potential of the human mind with a focus on psychic abilities. Of course, like all cyberpunk stories, this one goes horribly wrong for just about everyone involved. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0227408/ The next film is our first foray into poliziotteschi. (I checked, I did in fact spell that correctly.) 1973’s Milano Rovente, Directed by Umberto Lenzi and starring Antonio Sabato, this is the story of a pimp in Milan who is pressured to have his girls start selling heroine for a French gang leader. Salvatore does not like this so he hires some American muscle. Everything seems to be going his way, but is there a double cross in the future? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0134821/ There will be no OTC Talk this week, we need time to prepare for the madness that will be Rock and Shock! http://www.outsidethecinema.net Join us on our Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=56536815870 E-mail us some feedback! The first flick we discuss is 1977’s Axe, also know as Lisa, Lisa, The California Axe Massacre as well as The Virgin Slaughter. This is an interesting entry into the hostage taking genre of exploitation. Written, directed and starring Frederick R. Friedel, this is the story of three mafia types on the run from the law. They decide to hole up in a rural farmhouse, but the barefoot girl who tends to her paralyzed grandfather may not be as innocent as she seems. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075710/ Next up is the 1985 Sci-Fi / teen sex / slasher movie, Evils of the Night. Written by Philip Dennis Connors and Mardi Rustam, who also directed, this is the tale of space vampires that have come to Earth to harvest the platelets of horny teenagers. They hire two hapless and apparently helpless auto mechanics to kidnap the teens, but nothing really goes to plan. This may in fact be one of the most misleading cover boxes ever. Evils of the Night stars many B-movie stars such as Aldo Ray, Neville Brand, John Carradine and Julie Newmar. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089109/ This Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. e.s.t, we will have another episode of OTC Talk! http://www.tv.outsidethecinema.com OTC Hoodies are up for pre-order now! Welcome to the super-long Episode 86: Last House on Bloody Moon Beach. In this episode, we have our top six list of Scary Movie Animals, two reviews (of course) and a TON (really, it’s a literal ton) of listener feedback. Highlighted of course by Vishnu’s Toronto International Film Festival reports. Our first feature is the Jesus Franco 1981 flick “Die Säge des Todes,” a.k.a. Bloody Moon. This is the story of an all girls language school, a scarred ex-con, a weird incestuous sister, and some other unsavory characters that all have a part in the recent murders at the school. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083156/ Next up is another Italian attempt at exploitation cinema, 1978’s “La settima donna,” a.k.a. Terror a.k.a. Last House on the Beach. Directed by Franco Prosperi, this is the tale of three bank robbers and the trouble they run into when they decide to hole up in a house and take the people inside (one nun and five older teen girls) hostage. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078235/ This Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. e.s.t, Andrea will be joining us again to discuss, among other things, "Deadbeat at Dawn." www.tv.outsidethecinema.com OTC Hoodies are up for pre-order now! In this episode of Outside the Cinema, Chris manages to stomp all over the bits that Bill is trying to do during their list of “Top Six Music Movies.” These are movies with music as a driving plot device, but not necessarily a musical. Then we get into our “End of Summer” spectacular. Starting with the 1983 sex comedy “Screwballs.” Directed by Rafal Zielinski and written by Linda Shayne and Jim Wynorski, “Screwballs” is the story of a group of boys that want to see the class prude nekkid. That’s really all there is to it. No, seriously. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086264/ Next up is the Thomas A. Keith Written and Directed “Camp Fear” from 1991. I’m not going to say much about this one, you need to hear the review for yourself. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0180590/ This week on OTC TALK, we have a very special presentation of “Alabama’s Ghost.” This will not be put out on the feed, so if you don’t tune in, it will be lost to the four corners of the internets forever! www.Tv.outsidethecinema.com this Tuesday, September 15th at 8:00 p.m. E.S.T. Episode 84: After Alabama’s Midnight Ghost This week on Outside the Cinema, the boys tackle two very different films. Alabama’s Ghost and After Midnight, but first, they discuss their picks for “Top Six Badass Films.” That should generate some feedback! The first review of the show is Alabama’s Ghost. Released in 1973, this is the story of… well… there’s this guy, Alabama. He finds the belongings of a great magician named Carter. He uses the things to launch his music/magic career. Unfortunately for the plot, there are vampires, hippies, a weird Ed Gien kind of car, a robot and female Nazi scientists. You kind of have to see it to believe it. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068187/ The second review is for the 1989 horror anthology “After Midnight.” The best thing that this has going for it is a whole bunch of “Hey, I know them!” moments. The plot revolves around a “Psychology of Horror” class run by a complete douche. Because of a bad choice by the teacher, he is forced to conduct the class according to the rules. However, those that are really interested in true fear are invited to his house to try and scare each other with true stories. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096769/ Don’t forget to order your t-shirts! Available at www.outsidethecinema.net This week on OTC LIVE! We have as our special guests, Paul Solet and Adam Green, the writer/director and producer from “Grace” That’s this Tuesday at 8:00 e.s.t. September 8th.

Episode 83: Don’t Go In Mrs. Wardh

This week, we have another wonderfully inspired episode of Outside the Cinema. We discuss our top six “Because the Box Art Was Interesting” movies. These are movies that we either blind bought or rented because the cover art was intriguing.

After that, we get into our reviews. First up is the 1980 not-quite-a-horror-but-it-still-kind-of-is thriller, “Don’t Go in the House” Directed by Joseph Ellison and starting Dan Grimaldi, this is the tale of a man who loses his mother and seemingly as a consequence, his mind.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080646/

Next up is another in the long line if Giallo’s that Bill has forced Chris to watch. This time, it has a plus going into it. “The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh,” or “Lo strano vizio della Signora Wardh” stars Edwige Fenech. Directed by Sergio Martino, this film also stars, um… who cares? Edwige Fenech is in it. What is it about? Some jerk is trying to kill her. That’s all you really need to know. Well, not really. This film also stars Edwige Fenech’s exposed boobs!

Episode 82: Ice Pirates Told Me To...

This is a very special episode of Outside the Cinema. Not only is it one of the special listener picks show, we have a very big announcement to make to the OTC Nation.

Covered in this show is The Ice Pirates and God Told Me To. But, I’m getting ahead of myself. First up is a top six list highlighting that highlight our favorite opening sequences. To put it more succinctly, “Top six First Fifteen.”

Then we jump into our first review: Larry Cohen’s 1976 cult classic “God Told Me To.” This is the story of a cop, his religion, a woman, her son, a virgin birth, a reference to “Space 1999,” and a whole lot more.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075930/

Next up is the Stuart Raffill directed spoof, “The Ice Pirates.” This Star Wars (among many others) inspired film was released in 1984 and tells the tale of Templar Knights, hidden planets, a pan-galactic water shortage, pirates, time warps, space herpes, latex robots and Bruce Vilanch’s disembodied head.

Episode 81: The Last Withnail

What’s the old saying? “Ask and you shall receive.” Maybe I’m thinking of “Be careful what you wish for.” It can go either way this week as you will hear.

First up is our top six list of underused and / or underappreciated action stars.

Then we get into our first review, 1987’s “Withnail and I.” The sociopath drunk junkie, Withnail (Richard E. Grant) and his equally unemployed actor friend I, (Marwood played by Paul McGann) need to get out of their squalid apartment and into better surroundings. They accidentally end up on holiday in the English countryside where they can’t seem to adjust. Hunted (?) by a poacher, stalked by a homosexual “Uncle” (Richard Griffiths) and facing down randy bulls are but a few of the problems facing the pair. A true cult film, it is written and directed by Bruce Robinson.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094336/

Next up is the 1982 flick, “The Last Horror Film.” Directed by David Winters and starring Caroline Munro and Joe Spinell, “The Last Horror Film” tells the story of one man’s quest to put his favorite actress in his movie. Or does it? The back-story may actually be more interesting than the plot of the film.

We have hit the 80’s!!

Do you remember the 80s? Breakdancing, New Wave, mullets and more importantly, for your intrepid hosts, movies. Nothing encapsulated the teen angst and the hardships of relationships quite like a John Hughes movie. Bill and Chris take some time away from all of their goofball antics to reflect back on how John Hughes affected their lives. Of course, this is done in the form of a top six list.

Mercifully, just before Chris gets all misty, they delve into their first review; Troma’s teen sex romp comedy, “The First Turn-On!” from 1983. Written by Georgia Harrell and Michael Herz, this flick is directed by none other than Michael Herz Lloyd Kaufman. In an anthology style of storytelling, we get to see how each of the main characters lost their virginity.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085547/

Then, we move on to 1973’s Detroit 9000. Directed by Arthur Marks from a script by Orville H. Hampton, Detroit 9000 shines a light on the political and social climate, framed around fundraiser for an African American’s Gubernatorial campaign.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069966/

After the reviews, we catch up on two weeks of feedback! Thanks for writing in everyone!

Is this the week, friends? Has Bill By Force finally picked a Giallo that will not infuriate Mr. Chris? You will have to listen to find out.

The films covered this week are “What Have You Done To Solange?” and “There’s Nothing Out There.”

First up is 1992’s “There’s Nothing Out There.” Written and directed by Rolfe Kanefsky, this is the story of a group of teens (Teens? Really? O.K. whatever…) that try to spend a nice relaxing weekend in a cabin in the woods. Unbeknownst to them, a voracious alien has crashed the party. Fortunately, Mike is well versed in all horror movie scenarios. But, will that be enough?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103077/

Next we have 1972’s “Cosa avete fatto a Solange?” a.k.a “What Have You Done to Solange?” Based on the novel “The Clue of the New Pin” by Edgar Wallace, the screenplay was written by Bruno Di Geronimo and Massimo Dallamano who also directed the film. This Giallo, set in London tells the story of a group of grisly murders. Something connects all of the victims together, but what is it? Can the police and Enrico ‘Henry’ Rosseni figure it out in time?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068416/

The top six list this week is High School movies. This is a very broad topic, which generates some interesting choices.
